John, found this on Youtube and thought you'd be interested. A group of fans with a custom-built (and impressive) chariot model went to the Troma rocks in California where the original effects were filmed, and shot their own re-creation footage!

That footage is beautiful and some of the helicopter shots are just epic, especially with the sun flaring. The recreated shots on YouTube that Steve linked to are fantastic also!
