Reader Results: Top Ten Greatest Science Fiction Film Characters

I want to sincerely thank all the readers who contributed to this "Reader's Top Ten" go-round, and presented such terrific and thoughtful posts about these beloved, influential, and historic characters.

Also, I was thrilled to see that there was no drop-off in participation from last month, and we even had some new contributors this time around.

The votes are in and tabulated, and here are, by reader's choice, the top ten greatest science fiction film characters in history...

10. and 09.: Tie: Snake Plissken of Escape from New York (1981), etc., Captain James Kirk (Star Trek: The Motion Picture, etc.)

08. and 07.: Tie: R.J. MacReady of The Thing (1982) and Yoda of The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

06. Roy Batty of Blade Runner (1982).

05. Mr. Spock of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), etc.

04. Darth Vader of Star Wars (1977), etc.

03. George Taylor of Planet of the Apes (1968)

And our number #2 is...

02. Hal 9000 of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

and -- drum roll, please -- our number one is...

01. Ellen Ripley of Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), etc.

  1. It's a fantastic result. Well done, John.

    1. Thank you, Le0pard13. I think it's a good list, with a good mix of personalities, as well as heroes and villains!

  2. John, compliments to all that submitted lists and your insightful comments. The final top ten list results are all worthy.

    1. SGB, thank you to you, as well. It is wonderful to see all the reader contributions and insights. I'm really proud of our list...

  3. A really solid list I can get behind. :) Very surprised to see Mr. Russell up there twice, but both those character are good ones. Looking forward to the next list.

    1. Hi Roman,

I was thinking the same thing. The big winner for our list might very well be Kurt Russell! But as you say, both of his characters are awesome, so who can complain?

I'll be prepping the next list idea for mid-July, so I hope you return for another go round...
