Excellent Journey Returns: First Season Wonders/Second Season Blunders

The next episode of John and Jim's Excellent Journey, a podcast with James McLean and myself, is now posted at Beyond Kasterborous.

The subject "First Season Wonders and Second Season Blunders" looks at Cult-Television programming which had a strong inaugural year, but wasn't able to keep up the momentum due to second season changes.

  1. John, brilliant subject, especially regarding Space:1999, I will listen to it and post my thoughts here later.

  2. John, just listened to this new podcast of John and Jim's Excellent Journey. It was an extremely interesting subject, so it was very entertaining. I do agree that if SPACE:1999 second season was another 24 episodes of season one, then the 48 episodes would have made SPACE:1999 one of the greatest series ever made without question. Although, SPACE:1999 is still the greatest series for myself. Both SeaQuest and Lost In Space had horrible second seasons, then used their third [final] season to attempt a corrected course change. BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY second season on the Searcher should have had Wilma Deering as the commander of the starship Searcher with Buck as first officer along with Dr. Huer on board. I did like GALACTICA:1980 pilot three part episodes "Galactica Discovers Earth" with the Colonial Viper [2 seat] time traveling into Earth's past. Another first season wonder, second season blunder was Filmation's SPACE ACADEMY changing into Star Wars wannabe JASON OF STAR COMMAND.
