Cult-TV Theme Watch: Bow and Arrows

A bow and arrow is a weapon consisting of two parts: projectile and launcher.

The bow and arrow have played a significant role in TV history, and not just in the many adaptations of Robin Hood, including Robin of Sherwood.

In Star Trek (1966-1969), Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) fashion crude bows and arrows wile on the planet Capella, in an attempt to save the dead Teer’s wife, Elaan (Julie Newmar) from a death sentence.

In Land of the Lost (1974-1977), the Sleestak of Altrusia are armed with cross-bows and arrows, though they rarely wound anybody with the.

In both Smallville (2001-2011) and Arrow (2012 - ), Oliver Queen stalks city streets by night, armed for vigilante justice with a bow and arrow.

On Teen Wolf (2011 - ), Alison Argent (Crystal Reed), Scott’s (Tyler Posey) girlfriend, is an expert archer.

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) on The Walking Dead (2010 - ) always has his crossbow and arrows at the ready, facing armies of the dead. It is a signature move, in virtually every single episode, for Daryl to retrieve his arrows after felling walkers with shots to the head.

The Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) demonstrated his agility with a bow in arrow in the Doctor Who (2005 - ) serial, “Robot of Sherwood.”
