  2. Hi jdigriz:

Excellent identifications, my friend! And both are absolutely correct. That's Grant Taylor as Gen Henderson in UFO, and Simon Oakland as the redoubtable Tony Vincenzo from Kolchak!

    Great job,

    John

  5. Let me see:

    2. Cosmo Spacely from THE JETSONS
    12. Tim O'Connor as Dr. Elias Huer in BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY
    13. Lane Smith as Perry White in LOIS & CLARK
    14. Mr. Burns in THE SIMPSONS
    16. Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner in THE X-FILES
    19. Ricky Gervais as David Brent in THE OFFICE (original UK series)
    20. Ron Rifkin as Arvin Sloan in ALIAS

I believe 5. is from STAR TREK - TOS, 8. is from SPACE 1999 and 18. is also from THE X-FILES, but I can't quite remember from which episodes now.

    Cheers,

  6. João Seixas:

Hello, my friend! Excellent job on so many of these identifications! Wow!

#12 is Dr. Huer, #16 is Walter Skinner, #19 is Ricky Gervais and # 20 is Ron Rifkin.

The only one you sort-of, kind-of missed from that bunch is #13, Lane Smith from Lois and Clark. That is indeed Lane Smith, but as a boss in another genre series all together! Still, it could have very readily been an image from Lois and Clark. Great job.

#8 is from Space:1999, so I'm going to give you that one and # 5 too. #18 is not from the X-Files, however.

Still, pretty darn impressive, if you ask me...

    regards,
    John

  7. Hi.

I forgot 15. Richard Herd as Admiral Noyce in seaQuest DSV.

Man, I'm sure I've watch the series from which you took 18. recently. I'll try to remember.

    Thanks,

    João

  8. #17 is Frank Bach (JT Walsh) from DARK SKIES.

  9. Hi again John, I'm still running around with 18., but I do believe 9. is Joel Fabiani as Stewart Sullivan in one of my favorite TV Series ever: DEPARTMENT S. Now I may be wrong, because Fabiani was only Team Leader, since the real boss was black actor Dennis Alaba Jones, playing Sir Curtis Seretse.

Well, here I go, back trying to figure out 18.

    Thanks and Cheers,

    João

#3) Larry Tate (David White), 'Bewitched'

#9) Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson), 'Six Million Dollar Man'

#11) Steve Trevor (Lyle Waggoner), 'Wonder Woman) (Only series I can think of with Waggoner as a boss)

#15) SeaQuest DSV, but this is just a guess based on the uniform

  11. Wow, everyone is doing a fantastic job recognizing and identifying these cult tv bosses today!

João Seixas: #15 is indeed Richard Herd (Admiral Noyce) from Seaquest! Great job! Number 9 is someone different than you mentioned, however.

J.D. -- Yes, my friend, that is the late, great J.T. Walsh, Frank Bach of Dark Skies! Outstanding.

And hi Meredith, you also tagged several of these correctly, including Larry Tate, Oscar Goldma and Wonder Woman's Steve Trevor.

Great job to all of you!!!

    regards,
    John

  12. Isn't #1 Perry White from Adventures of Superman?

#10 is Conrad Janis, maybe from Mork & Mindy

#18 is the head of the Watcher Council on Buffy. I think it's Jerry Hardin.

    #21 is Miguel Ferrer.

That is indeed Perry White from Adventures of Superman! Great job. #21 is Miguel Ferrer. Those are slam dunks!

Now, #10 is Conrad Janis...but not from Mork and Mindy. # 18 is the Head of the Watcher council on Buffy, but not Jerry Hardin. Very close on all of these!!!!

  17. Man, so it was from Buffy. Watched the whole series twice and I didn't remember Travers/Yulin. Shame on me. I should also have recognized Otto from Quark and Nathan Bates on V, but I haven't watched any of those series in a while.

    Cheers,

    João

  18. 22. Tess Mercer from Smallville?

  19. Hi Joao,

Don't worry, buddy -- you did an awesome job identifying these gallery images. You were SO in the ballpark on Quark and V, and you were right on the verge of getting the Buffy image. But you did fantastic!

And Todd: Yes! You identified Smallville's Tess Mercer -- a great character brought to life by the lovely and talented Cassidy Freeman.

    Nice job!

    Regards,
    John

  20. Another excellent quiz, John. Enjoyed this very much.

The comments about Lane Smith as both Perry White from Lois and Clark and as Nathan Bates on V are very illuminating. Many actors get typecast into playing police officers, army generals, cowboys, criminals, or scientists--but a lot get typecase into roles of authority as well. Lane Smith also played Mayor Bates in Red Dawn; the coach of a rival hockey team in The Mighty Ducks; President Nixon in The Final Days; and Larry Mulloy, manager of the solid rocket booster at Marshall, who gave a go-ahead to launch the Challenger on its last mission.

A lot of the other performers have been military command grade officers, or bosses of some kind, in various roles over the years.

  21. PDXWiz:

Hi Gordon! I think you are absolutely right about typecasting. Some actors just end up "looking" a part. Many of these folks (Edward Platt, Richard Anderson, perhaps Lyle Waggoner...) just really look like the proverbial "boss." It's strange, but certainly true!

Thanks for the comment, my friend.

    best,
    John
