So...my six-year old son, Joel, has watched some Star Trek, Land of the Lost and even Space: 1999 with me over the last several months, but the "classic" sci-fi series that has really revved up his imagination is...Doctor Who.
We watched "Tomb of the Cybermen" together recently (and then "The Sontaran Experiment," "Revenge of the Cybermen" and "The Krotons"), and Joel has been absolutely hooked. We have "Seeds of Doom" and "The Hand of Fear" in our future.
Accordingly, Joel is having a Doctor Who Christmas this morning, with a visit from the TARDIS, as you see it above at our Christmas tree (overloaded with presents on the inside.)
And below is Joel's home-made Cyberman "tomb" on Telos, with Cybermen troops and cybermats just ready to awaken for more adventure.
Ah fantastic. You have to love the creativity and mind of a child. All the best to you this Christmas and love the Tardis idea! Enjoy Seeds Of Doom on this fruitful holiday [sounds almost like an oxymoron]! Merry Christmas, SFF
ReplyDeleteHi SFF,
DeleteMerry Christmas, my friend. I saw that TARDIS "playhouse" (Dekker Toys, 1982) on E-Bay at the last minute and thought it was perfect for Joel this year, given his sudden and overwhelming passion for Dr. Who. I'm just glad it shipped and arrived in time for the morning!
I hope you have a wonderful day with your family.
best,
John
John, as I watch the new Doctor Who "The Snowmen" episode on BBC America I am surprised to see your wonderful family's Christmas Tree photo posted on your blog complete with the brilliant TARDIS playhouse. Awesome for Joel and you to enjoy. I am sure that a Tom Baker Doctor's trademark scarf and hat will possibly be a future addition to enhance to playtime. Have fun and all the best ahead in 2013.

Happy Holidays, my dear friend!
DeleteI hope you enjoyed The Snowmen! I can't wait to see those. My wife and I are now in "Rise of the Cybermen."/"Age of Steel" and moving forward. Great episodes!
My son loves that Tom Baker scarf. He calls it the eternity scarf. He also loves the Doctor's seemingly bottomless pockets, which contain yo-yos, jelly babies, and occasionally apple cores!
Happy Holidays!
best,
John
