AF: Meet Dr. Carol Carroll (Leslie Cossor)

This week on Abnormal Fixation, the final new member of Elvis's unusual entourage is introduced.  

In "The Doll," you get to meet Dr. Carol Carroll, couples therapist and licensed exorcist. 

That description suggests, appropriately, that Dr. Carol will fit right in with the others on the team with Season and Elvis.

In real life, Dr. Carol Caroll is played by the incredible Leslie Cossor, an accomplished actor and comedian. 

Leslie arrived on set for AF and instantly brought her character vividly to life, right down to some incredible ad libs, which remain in the final cut of the episode. I know I speak for everyone in the cast when I say we  love working with Leslie. She brings a unique and playful energy to her role, which keeps us all on our toes.

Leslie was also part of the cast of Enter the House Between in 2023, playing Eris, the half-human/half-lar offspring of Theresa. 

Leslie has also worked locally, regionally, off Broadway and with Cirque Du Soleil’s “Quidam.” Leslie specializes in voice in movement with her work heavily based on elements found in Fitz-Maurice and Linklater voice work, Laban, Bartenieff, and Alexander movement techniques. She lives in Charlotte, NC with her husband and children.

AF: Meet Detective Missy Styles (Kim Breeding-Mercer)

It's my pleasure and delight to see the return this week on AF (Abnormal Fixation) of Kim Breeding-Mercer, who portrayed Astrid on The House Between (2006-2009) and in the audio drama Enter The House Between (2023). 

Kim essays the role of the no-nonsense Detective Missy Styles in tomorrow's episode of Abnormal Fixation, "The Trip," and she is a marvelous straight man...er woman.

I love working with Kim, as she is a superb actor, always prepared and always ready to give a line (or a look...) a sharp twist. Just watching her dry, askance reactions to Elvis, Season and Mark in "The Trip" cracks me up every time I watch the show. Among her many talents, Kim has absolutely mastered the reaction shot!

Outside of AF, Kim is a talented author of fantasy and science fiction. She adapted The House Between first season fan favorite "Mirrored" into a novella, available here, and is serializing her own original fantasy tales at Oneirical.

Enter The House Between picks up Hermes Creative Award (Platinum!) for 2024

Enter The House Between, our audio drama that finished airing its first season in October of 2023, picked up its second award yesterday! 

This time, the series won a platinum statue for 2024 in the category of Audio/Radio Program.

The award itself is a Hermes Creative Award, which is sponsored by the Association of Marketing and Creative Professionals. 

The Hermes Awards have been around 18 years, and they honor the messengers and creators of the information revolution.  

According to the website, "Armed with their imaginations and computers, Hermes winners bring their ideas to life through traditional and digital platforms."

"Each year, competition judges evaluate the creative industry's best publications, branding collateral, websites, videos, and advertising, marketing, and communication programs," and this year, I am proud to say that Enter The House Between was singled out with a Platinum award.  (Other categories are Gold, and Honorable Mention).

I want to thank our tremendous cast and crew for making the first season of the series such a memorable one for our listeners. 

The second season is in post-production, and you ain't seen (or heard...) nothing yet!

Enter The House Between wins an AVA Digital Award for Best Audio Drama!

I am very proud to announce today that my production company, The Lulu Show LLC has won an AVA Digital Award. Our audio drama, Enter The House Between took home the Platinum Award in 2024 in the category of Best Audio Production/Audio Drama. I want to congratulate the cast and crew for this amazing recognition and honor -- they deserve it!!! I also want thank the audience for tuning in to support the series.

Here is some more info about this prestigious award: "The AVA Digital Awards is an international competition that recognizes outstanding work by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design, and production of media that is part of the evolution of digital communication. Work ranges from audio and video productions, social media sites, animation, blogs, podcasts, and other forms of user-generated digital communication."

Finally, I want to thank the AVA Digital Awards for this notation, and again, share it with the amazing talents who make Enter The House Between.

Enter The House Between Season 1, Episode 9: "The Last Dream of My Soul" (Season One Finale)

It is with great satisfaction and pride that I announce the arrival of Enter The House Between's season finale, "The Last Dream of My Soul."  

As you know, this is an independent production, and that means the cast and behind-the-scenes folk have worked tirelessly to create and tell these stories to our audience.  

I am so proud of everything this amazing team has accomplished, and want to give a shout-out to sound-designer/series editor Tony Mercer, in particular, who has created the world your ears have been enjoying since the premiere last April.  

Writing and acting in this milieu are tremendous challenges and joys, but editing is an Everett Branch unto itself, and Tony has, I think you'll agree, proven a master of it.  

And the good news is...a second season is on the horizon!

In the meantime, "The Last Dream of My Soul," the first season climax, finds the denizens of the smart farm caught between a rock (Father) and a hard-place (The Dark Matter Entity), as they attempt to rescue Eris and preserve the Quantumsphere itself.    

All bets are off, as the confrontations keep coming, on after the other...

Enter The House Between, Season 1, Episode 8: "Old Skin"

For your listening pleasure, "Old Skin," the newest episode of Enter The House Between.  

This story finds the denizens at their lowest point, isolated and trapped in the corridors of Hell (or the Dark Matter Dimension, if you prefer...).  

It's all a big lead up to our shattering final episode of the season, "The Last Dream of My Soul."

As usual, Tony Mercer, our sound designer, has crafted an incredible aural experience, this time crafting those aforementioned corridors of Hell, the "Old Skin" of the universe.

And, it is my pleasure to announce that the episode also features a very special guest star, the one and only Craig T. Adams of Dr. Madblood!

This episode is also dedicated to the late Paul Knight, Paulzilla, a friend to and supporter of the creative team of Enter The House Between for many years.

Enter The House Between Season 1, Episode 7: "Temple of Immensity" (and Happy Breakaway Day!)

The time is NOW!

The first season of Enter The House Between resumes this morning with episode 7, "Temple of Immensity."   

Today is a special day, of course, not just for ETHB, but for fans of a sci-fi TV series that has had a huge impact on my work and my writing career, Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's Space:1999 (1975-1977).

In 1999 series lore, 9/13 is the date the Earth's moon is blasted out of Earth orbit. The Alphans are stranded on our wayward natural satellite, whisked away from Earth.

What better day could Enter The House Between return on? (Especially with a story about our denizens being whisked somewhere...dangerous).

So, if you are a fan of 1999, I hope you will enjoy the 48th anniversary of the series, but also return to, or sample, Enter The House Between, which was imagined by someone who grew up with the show and is endlessly inspired by it.

This ETHB adventure picks up after the events of "Dresden," as the denizens are at their lowest ebb, uncertain and unprepared to take the battle to Father.

But Father has already brought the battle to them...

One Week from Today - Enter The House Between Returns (9/13)

 

In just seven short days, the end-game for Season One of Enter The House Between begins.  

Episode 7 (of 9) drops next Wednesday morning, and it's called "Temple of Immensity."

The term "temple of immensity" it is an archaic one regarding the after life, or other heavenly realms. 

Long time fans of House Between lore may recall the so-called Temple of Immensity playing a role in the episode called"Distressed."

Slight spoilers ahead...

Basically, per "Distressed," throughout human history, some strange force, the Temple of Immensity had come to humanity and whisked away people to parts unknown (at the lost colony of Roanoke, aboard the Marie Celeste, and so forth).   

That force and that name was given a different name in later episodes: the dark matter dimension.

So, next week, on 9/13 get ready to be whisked away....
