Reader Top Ten Greatest Horror Films 1960 - 2000: John Portanova

Reader and producer John Portanova contributes our next top ten list of horror films from 1960 - 2000.

John writes:

"10. From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)

09. Scream (1996)

08. Psycho (1960)

07. The Evil Dead (1983)

06. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

05. Jaws (1975)

04. John Carpenter's The Thing (1982)

03. Halloween (1978)

02. Return of the Living Dead (1985)

01. An American Werewolf in London (1981)."

John, it's great to see the Landis film, An American Werewolf in London (1981) make your top slot.

That film is not only scary, but also really funny.  In fact, given that Return of the Living Dead and Scream also made your list (and are excellent selections...) I'd say you have a penchant for horror movies which lean funny.  I like that equation too.  When done right (like in Evil Dead II, as well...) there's no greater movie experience in the world.

Thank you for your great list!

  1. LOVE that 'An American Werewolf in London' made JP's list, and at the top! I hated to leave this, my favorite werewolf film, off my mine.
