Cult-TV Theme Watch: Bath Tubs

In the course of cult-TV history, the bath-tub -- a container holding water -- has been a location for humor, horror, sex, and luxury, to name just a few purposes.

In Star Trek: Voyager (1995 - 2001), the episode "Q2" finds Q (John de Lancie) making an unwelcome appearance in Captain Janeway's (Kate Mulgrew) bubble bath.

In The X-Files (1993 - 2002), the episode "Hollywood A.D." finds Mulder (David Duchovny), Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) in the unexpected -- and unusual for the series -- lap of luxury while awaiting a Hollywood movie premiere.  One funny scene shows three split screens, and the characters conversing with one another from their individual tubs.

The most memorable "guest" serial killer on Dexter (2006 - 2013), Arthur Mitchell (John Lithgow) -- The Trinity Killer -- is famous for a depraved m.o.  He kills his female victims in a bath-tub, and then lets the bath water flow red.  Dexter's wife, Rita, is one of his victims.

On The Vampire Diaries (2009 - ), Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) takes his victims -- and lovers -- to his bath tub on more than one occasion.
