Today, I am no longer thirty-something.
I'm officially forty fricking years old. Hard to believe it. I still feel about 25.
But you know something? I've actually been making my peace with encroaching middle-age in the last few weeks and come to realize...it's really okay. Sure, I need to watch what I eat more than I used to (no more midnight trips to Taco Bell...); and exercising is a must; more than ever.
But when I look at that face in the mirror, I don't see age and my own mortality. I see a lucky man. I have a beautiful wife and soulmate with whom to share my life; and a wonderful little boy who is a joy and a blessing every day. Plus a job I love. So I don't have to feel old, right?
Nope. Not me. I'm in my prime, baby...

All that matters is the inside! Happy 40th!
ReplyDeleteAs the saying goes, you're only as old as you feel. Happy b-day!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, John!
ReplyDeleteJohn, have a very happy birthday, the first of many more to come, and, of course, the best of all possible Destinies.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, John. It seems life has given you a pair of rare and priceless gifts. May you all take care.
ReplyDeleteThank you all -- my dear friends -- for the happy birthday wishes.
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky in family...and lucky in readers too. I don't know what I'd do without you all...
best,
JKM
Happy birthday, John! I hit this particular milestone a couple months back, and I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't handle it half as well as you seem to be. Here's to you for facing the inevitable with aplomb and a positive attitude!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday John. You and me- we have a few things in common. We're both telefantasy/ horror freaks, have wonderful wives and I'm staring down the barrel at 40 (March next year). But the stuff we're into- I really think it keeps us young. The imagination, the fun, the suspense and mystery...this is the stuff of youth. Keep doing what you love man and in the words of David Banner...you be good to yourself.

Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI say you can still go to Taco Bell once in awhile. And if you don't, I'll go for you!
Amanda By Night: Ha! Thanks!! I may limit my Taco Bell to before 7:00 pm or something like that :)
ReplyDeleteAnd Mark,
Thank you for the birthday wishes too. You're right: a love of horror, sci-fi and fantasy is a good recipe for staying young at heart.
And to quote Kirk...I feel...young!
best,
JKM
Hi John! I'm sorry I'm late to the party, what did I miss?
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to wish you a very happy birthday, and may you find much much more luck and happiness in the next 40, and then some.
To infinity and beyond!
