When I was in college (mid-90s), a group of enterprising engineering undergrads I was friendly with got a Gauntlet console into their fourth-floor walkup(!!), and then wired an old rotary phone into it, so that instead of adding a quarter to extend a player's life, you'd dial a number (1 through 4) on the phone!!
