Without all that was established by the new production design in this film then I think the next five films might have lost their way. As a boy on Friday December 7th 1979, I will never forget sitting with my family in the cinema watching Star Trek:TMP. I was in awe and truly got goose bumps as Admiral Kirk and Scotty did their prolonged flyover of the majestic refit Enterprise.

SGBAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-47181876156218509962013-05-16T15:47:37.571-04:002013-05-16T15:47:37.571-04:00I too have come to love this film. It is ambitious science fiction- pose the riddle and force the crew to overcome their own failings to rise to this challenge, as you have discussed. I love your analysis of Kirk's character arc too. Reading this just makes me want to watch it again. It's near the top of my favorites of the series, if not my favorite, which may vary depending on my mood.TheJackSackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16846734759298261359noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-73997856681693326012013-05-16T11:08:55.929-04:002013-05-16T11:08:55.929-04:00I was disappointed when this film came out, I now ...I was disappointed when this film came out, I now think it's the best ST pic. There are memorable and captivating moments.

Now, as then, I like how its aesthetic looked back to "The Cage" ... as much as I think the regular series' initial design work is outstanding, for the most part.

As one writer said recently, there are no firing phaser banks. Wonderful. 'Imagine that happening today'....Barry Smighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02464450751543573690noreply@blogger.com
