If not, Westworld needs a proper dvd/blu-ray release with both versions theatrical and television.

SGBSGBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07137406272001346149noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-46053435494460915742016-09-29T01:16:42.186-04:002016-09-29T01:16:42.186-04:00SGB,

Now I'm wondering if there was another release at 92 minutes...I might have to look into this! I wonder if this is what you are looking for with the additional four minutes?

SGBSGBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07137406272001346149noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-2218714038357670252016-09-27T20:07:16.309-04:002016-09-27T20:07:16.309-04:00John,
I think I caught this film on television as ...John,
I think I caught this film on television as a kid and since it had robots, I was in. What I couldn't have imagined was what I got - a tale in which the robots were ostensibly the heroes by outperforming the humans at their own game - being more vicious and malevolent than their own creators! The fact that DELOS created an amusement park from three time periods in human history that you were most likely to die a violent death wasn't lost on me. It's almost a twist on the notion of "You get what you pay for." Yul Brynner is simply perfect. This movie would not be a classic without his performance.
When I purchased the film on dvd a few years ago, I was surprised to find a few scenes that I vividly remembered to be missing. As it turns out (Thanks, Wikipedia!), there were a few bits edited back into the film for its airing on NBC, and subsequent runs in syndication. When the film was released on dvd, it was the theatrical version, with none of the deleted scenes at all. Specifically, I remember the shots of the hovercraft that brings John and Peter to Westworld, a pretty neat-looking model flying through the desert. This hovercraft is only seen on monitors and briefly in close-up as it lands. It's a shame we can't have this extended version of the film released on home video. I'd love to be corrected if I'm wrong; I don't own the blu ray, but it doesn't have any special features at all. Perhaps we'll get a deluxe re-release if the upcoming HBO series is successful. One can hope.
SteveAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13101722769411384962noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-65719314509989622182016-09-27T16:26:43.588-04:002016-09-27T16:26:43.588-04:00Such a classic film. Always loved the inversion of the macho posturing bullsh*t genre, where the weaker man/intelectual/sensitive man has to become the one to take command and save the day. Not only did Crichton predict the "computer virus," he gave us the worst case scenario. Also interesting is the voyuer aspect of the whole thing. We know the managers and programmers are watching all. Not only the violence but also the sex. Made me wonder if they had a secret tape trading thing going on with their favorite sex and violence moments? Even as a boy, back then, I found the premise intriguing because Delos worlds were beyond Disney World. Both Westworld(1973) and The Stepford Wives(1975) seem to coexist well. In the Stepford Wives it is mentioned that one of the men had worked for Disney. It would have been believable if they stated Delos. The new HBO series Westworld seems to be a direct remake of this film, good.

SGB SGBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07137406272001346149noreply@blogger.com
