I've long liked "Darians", for it is dark and absolutely grand in its vision. Production designer Keith Wilson said in an interview that it was his pick as the episode with the most scope. There isn't a lot of actors with actual speaking parts to put a drain on the budget, but there is a nice variety of settings. The matte paintings may be poor, with the exception of the walkway one, but in spite of them we are convinced as viewers that the Daria is a huge generational ship adrift in space.

The gene-bank prop is a bit rickety, and awefully exposed and vulnerable to damage (for a reason important to the story), but it gets the point across. "Mission of the Darians" analyses the themes of desperation, arrogance, priviledge, and plain ol' survival, so well -- if ham-fisted -- that I've now seen the episode more than any other in the series.Barry Smighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02464450751543573690noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-37439701388728659912016-09-15T12:10:31.464-04:002016-09-15T12:10:31.464-04:00Brilliant analysis of yet another impressive seaso...Brilliant analysis of yet another impressive season one episode. "Mission of the Darians" S.S. Daria belongs in the same category as the ark in Starlost(1973-74).

SGBSGBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07137406272001346149noreply@blogger.com
