Albeit, if Scotty had beamed hundreds of rabbits over to a Klingon D-7 Battle-cruiser in TOS "Trouble With Tribbles" there would have been major problems with the network censors.

SGBSGBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07137406272001346149noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-67221931917980945202013-06-08T16:04:17.383-04:002013-06-08T16:04:17.383-04:00Other animated shows such as "Futurama" ...Other animated shows such as "Futurama" joking about Trek are funnier than Trek itself. The limitations of a 70's Filmation show are what makes this less appealing today (as with "Jason of Star Command)-the endless recycling of music, stilted characterizations geared toward young audiences, etc. I always thought "The Trouble With Tribbles" was a ridiculously overrated episode, so I was never inclined to particularly enjoy this ep anyway. Since this animated ep is included on several Trek DVD sets as an extra, quite a few people will get to see this. It's not the best episode of the animated series.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-15957641360004041922013-06-08T15:18:04.415-04:002013-06-08T15:18:04.415-04:00I must add that being a fan of science-fiction pro...I must add that being a fan of science-fiction production designs I am happy to see the Federation robot cargo ships. I believe that they used CG to add these ships to the re-mastered TOS episodes of both "Charlie X" and "Ultimate Computer".

SGBAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-62310868827316406822013-06-08T12:24:21.330-04:002013-06-08T12:24:21.330-04:00John, I agree with your review. Of the Tribbles ep...John, I agree with your review. Of the Tribbles episodes I would rate the best DS9 "Trials And Tribble-ations". TOS "Trouble With Tribbles" is the second best and TAS "More Tribbles, More Troubles" the worst. I must say that even as a boy in the '70s, when I first saw both TOS "Trouble With Tribbles" and TAS "More Tribbles, More Troubles" I was upset that the Klingons would obviously be killing all the Tribbles. It is disturbing that Tribble genocide was allowed, especially in Star Trek.

SGB Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-18188733178033815032013-06-08T12:14:05.860-04:002013-06-08T12:14:05.860-04:00As a child, I made a few attempts at trying to wat...As a child, I made a few attempts at trying to watch Star Trek and was disappointed every time because I always stumbled onto the jokey episodes. My first two attempts at watching the original series, I saw Mudd's Women and I, Mudd. Later, when I made two attempts at watching the animated series, I saw Mudd's Passion and this tribble episode. I got the impression that Star Trek was some sort of comedy and that Mudd was a regular character. It wasn't until I was 11 that I watched the show regularly and figured out why people liked it so much.

I still don't get why people like the tribbles stories so much, though, and I completely agree with you about this episode. I always wondered why the Federation did not know about these creatures sooner since surely they had to be a menace elsewhere. Just like with The Voyage Home, when Star Trek is played too much for laughs, it sets up annoying plot holes for the sake of a joke and undermines the credibility of the franchise.NealPhttp://codenamecarla.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-19251110268649129132013-06-08T10:07:35.062-04:002013-06-08T10:07:35.062-04:00I have not seen "More Tribbles, More Troubles...I have not seen "More Tribbles, More Troubles" in years (decades), but I understand what you are saying. When I first saw this one I remember thinking some things were odd; like the music after Scotty says, just before the fade to commercials, "Tribbbbles..." It would give the viewer unfamiliar with "The Trouble With Tribbles" the impression that these are mean-arse little bastards.

I don't disagree with you on the issue of trying a new perspective or vantage point on the sweet little buggers. How about a story on Sherman's Planet? I'm sure the ST: animated producers talked about trying something a little different, but they may have caved in to pressure to be safe.

One thing I didn't like about the animated show was the number of Klingon episodes -- in whole or in part. The Klingon Battle Cruiser is one of my two favourite SF vehicles of all time, but, as you say, too much of a good thing....

I posted something yesterday of a similar note...
http://barrysmight.blogspot.ca/2013/06/star-trek-animated-slaver-weapon.htmlBarry Smighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02464450751543573690noreply@blogger.com
