Generally John I very much respect your incisive approach even if I dont really agree with your opinion.
But I think you are way off the mark here. The film had a great ambience aided by a wonderful moody and dark soundtrack.

And regarding the "ghost" , it is more like the "reincarnation" of Birth (2004). Laura is possessed not by Elaine's ghost but Mark's whackadoodle mothers psychic memory of Elaine that is the manifested into a sort of entity.
This is what the doctor meant when he said “There’s more than one kind of possession,” . You blame the movie for being talky but then complain it didnt elaborate on this. A bit unfair eh?
It is for this reason "Elaine" does not remember the circumstances of her demise. Because "Elaine" knows what the mother knows. And when the truth comes out , there is a catharsis scream from Laura unleashing or expelling this psychic entity on the culprit(David) which pushes him over the staircase leading to his death.

I personally like the slow burn even if the burn is as slow as waiting for a tan in a Norwegian April. It is a welcome respite from the crap that Blumhouse churns out these days in the name of "horror"
ysv_raohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06078517736366792665noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-26589587230579011822017-04-21T04:43:17.577-04:002017-04-21T04:43:17.577-04:00I agree there are parallels with "Jane Eyre&q...I agree there are parallels with "Jane Eyre", John, but I would have said "Rebecca"! I think it almost IS "Rebecca". Maybe it was pitched to the principals involved as a version of Rebecca, and then the project was interfered with.

Considering the time it was shot, I suspect what happened here had something to do with fallout from Patty Duke's undiagnosed bipolar disorder. It has the hallmarks of a half-finished project that went on hiatus and languished on the shelf, then was hastily compiled and senselessly edited to fill an open network timeslot. Yes, TV movies like this gave a lot of people like Lew Ayres, Beulah Bondi and Dorothy McGuire needed work when the studio system disintegrated, but the script must have been very attractive to get Duke, McCallum and Mann to sign on in the first place.Sherinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-51876750964653235622017-04-20T11:27:56.721-04:002017-04-20T11:27:56.721-04:00She Waits(1972) on youtube
