Many of us were acutely aware of this when we first viewed it. (Esp. DS9 and the heap of dren Voyager).

I wonder, however, if the same will be said of SGU. We all tend, I think, to suffer a certain myopia when we watch current sci fi shows that grab us. We tend to ascribe timeless qualities to our choice of the day.

petePetehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05304391238021068916noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-60391498254205105632010-08-30T18:39:31.872-04:002010-08-30T18:39:31.872-04:00Hi Le0pard13: SGU is great...seriously. I think you'll enjoy the series very much.

And Johnny Jay: I very much agree with you. The static staging of certain scenes (usually on the bridge), coupled with a lack of intensity on the part of the performers left TNG, often, seeming dull and unsuspenseful. Good comments!

best,
JKMJohn Kenneth Muirhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15629979615332893780noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-13314094523097730532010-08-30T12:56:55.027-04:002010-08-30T12:56:55.027-04:00I agree with much of what you say about SGU and ho...I agree with much of what you say about SGU and how it diverged from the earlier Stargate formula to deliver a more engaging show with greater dramatic potential. However, I felt like the writers started to run out of ideas and/or inspiration as the season progressed. Still, I am looking forward to Season 2.

I also appreciate you comments about the later Star Trek series and how they have not aged as well and also how they seemed to lack resourcefulness beyond their advanced technology (how well would Picard or Riker have fared in the "Arena" scenario from the original series?). One thing I noticed with ST:TNG and the others is that often the actors failed to demonstrate any sense of urgency or concern despite the situation. It was as if they had already read the scripts and knew they would survive! The better episodes, especially of TNG, managed to avoid this, but it crept in on a regular basis.Johnny Jayhttp://www.axiomsedge-scifi.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-26550729051798815332010-08-29T19:08:45.352-04:002010-08-29T19:08:45.352-04:00This definitely seems like a great BD disc set to ...This definitely seems like a great BD disc set to pick up. Given the attention and appraisal you've given SGU, I'm anxious to see this. Thanks, John.

p.s., I couldn't agree with you more about the new Battlestar Gallactica series.le0pard13https://www.blogger.com/profile/09421175808461787862noreply@blogger.com
