I did feel it made a big request of the viewer. You had to watch and experience it and suspend the need to literally understand it.. This was a challenge in a highly disturbing and mind bending film like Inland Empire. I agree with this individual analyzing the film. I felt it absolutely had to be her being thrown into previous lives, remembering multiple past lives possibly triggered by present trauma. I felt Lynch was commenting on the role of women and their suffering, the possibility of reincarnation and why it would be a disaster for us to be able to remember our past lives in our present incarnation. The film shows how it might be, glimpsing through the veil (pierced with a burning cigarette?) could shatter our sanity. Just my take on the movie. What a fascinating film. I doubt it could be made today since it isn't an investment that could ensure a huge studio profit.Artist Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07466718732345971872noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-88169154436783753082013-03-14T05:09:05.139-04:002013-03-14T05:09:05.139-04:00The most persuasive reading I've come across s...The most persuasive reading I've come across so far. Though I wonder if there's only one dreamer and that is The Lost Girl. The actress playing the role is Karolina Gruszka; at the moment of crisis, Nikki is granted access to the club when she tells the doorman, and I'm paraphrasing, 'I know the girl, her name is Karolina', this feels pivotal when so much of the dream so far has been about who is she? Have you known me before? Is this the moment that leads to the final integration? It feels to me like we could well be wandering through the fractured and traumatised subconscious of a trafficked prostitute.

Also is it just me or does the LA Bungalow resemble the interior of Dean Stockwell's pad in Blue Velvet, and is that Dorothy Vallens name on the brass star on Hollywood's walk of fame? Here's...Thanks for the intersting dream review. Here's another interpretation.(I don't believe there's any single 'right' one.)

BARDO Interpretation
Essentially,a certain portion of DL's structure seems to be based upon the Tibetan Book of the Dead, a work of the 9th century, give or take, that is meant to be read to the dear, dead departed as a guide to their reincarnation or, if all goes well, their liberation from the 'Wheel Of Life', which is a series of stages in the development and evolution of consciousness.

The Beginning:The bright, blinding white light is the first thing a soul sees when one dies. Welcome to the afterlife, the Bardo or 'place.'
"Where am I?", the soul is confused, detatched as it is from its home, the body.
"I'm afraid.", Everything is strange and frightening, but do not despair: help is on the way.

Lost Girl ( her soul wandering) watches a tv on which she sees, thrugh confusion and tears, Visitor #1, then some very silly rabbits, one of whom becomes Janek and has an interview with The Phantom.
Visitor #1 does her turn, awakening the soul in the guise of a confused Nikki to its new surroundings and providing some clues as to what to expect.These themes are repeated and referenced throughout. The Half-Born; trouble with telling time ( we are now in a timeless realm, at certain later stages of which one can see the future and past);actions do have consequences and not just in this one life, but, due to the karma one has accrued, the next and an entire successsion of them;
"An unpaid bill that needs paying" >>the karmic debt the soul owes from misdeeds in a past life

When in the Bardo, the soul meets a Light Council, consisting of beings of high level of consciousness. That is the instance where the soul reviews his past life’s records (akashic records), and defines, in agreement with the Light Beings, the issues and challenges to work on in his next incarnation>> Seance Scene
Therefore, the soul makes an analysis of his previous lives, has extremely vivid memories of them, the images appear just like in a movie, and this allows him to make some kind of evaluation on the spiritual evolution reached in each life >> Sue's monolog and the old, cold Pole scenes.
At birth, the soul forgets all about his previous lives, as well as the karmic project he designed while in the Bardo.>> 'Look at me and tell me if you ever met me before.'
In the Bardo, we also meet our soul family. They are those souls that have been with us throughout our entire existence.
This situation gives us great pleasure and happiness, because we are reuniting people who have been extremely important for us.>>The union of Smithy, Smithy''s son and LG, where they hug and so forth.)

The Tibetan book definitely attributes paranormal faculties to the consciousness of the Bardo voyager and explains it as due to the fact that the Bardo-consciousness encompasses future elements as well as past. Hence clairvoyance, telepathy, ESP, etc. are said to be possible >> 'seeing', teleporting in time and space, like back to Poland, ahead to Hollywood and Vine.
If you've been a good little soul, implemented your karmic plan and spun your prayer wheel a lot, then you escape from the 'wheel' altogether and evanesce to away.>> Nikki kisses LG and attains this state.
The frequent eferences to 'being good with animals' and the Rabbits( Camilla and Diane from Mulholland Drive, reborn thus for being damn naughty)fit right in with the Bardo deal.
For a longer discussion of this interpretation and other takes on this interesting movie:
http://www.dugpa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1358
BEST OF FORTUNE,
Carlcarlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07177252137876173884noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-45895288136052579112010-08-06T16:47:13.703-04:002010-08-06T16:47:13.703-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.carlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07177252137876173884noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-67453534474467510212010-06-23T04:58:03.199-04:002010-06-23T04:58:03.199-04:00To truly comprehend Inland Empire we are required ...To truly comprehend Inland Empire we are required once more to undertake the process of "dream distillation."

Does this mean with a synthetic hallucinogen taken at 10:30 and movie starting at 2:00 am?

Reading this blog post was interesting, but also like looking at the 1's and 0's of a secondary recording of an experience.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
