What I se...I do think your premise is a bit flawed. What I see is even more subversive (for the 60's). The Invaders represent not the counterculture, but the establishment. In many of the episodes, it's clear that the invaders have penetrated some pretty high levels of human society, and are attempting to manipulate it. The message is clear. The establishment is doing evil, and you can't prove it.

This series also fell prey to changing significantly in the second season. It went from one-man-against-the-world to team-against-the-world. It was, in my opinion, a less than successful rework.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-19718656753853358692015-07-30T00:05:04.609-04:002015-07-30T00:05:04.609-04:00John,
Thank You for profiling "The Invaders!&...John,
Thank You for profiling "The Invaders!" My Dad used to tell me about this show, about how the aliens would disintegrate and leave no evidence behind. I didn't see the show until years later, and even then it was pulled off the air almost as quickly as it started.
I was so happy when CBS Home Video released The Invaders on dvd; all the episodes, both Seasons 1 and 2. It's mentioned in the special features and elsewhere that the show actually became more popular when its cancellation was announced. The ratings improved drastically, but to no avail.
But that last episode...I've never seen anything quite like it. I can only imagine what people watching in the 60's must have thought. Probably tame by today's standards, but it left a mark on my psyche.
The show looks tremendous, as you said. The music by Dominic Frontiere (in Year One) is memorable. However, the sense of hopelessness which pervades the series can be overwhelming. Poor David Vincent can't seem to catch a break.
The attempt to revive the series in the 90's was ill-conceived, but I think this concept would really work today. Sometimes when I watch CNN, I think that The Invaders may have already succeeded in taking over the Earth!
SteveAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13101722769411384962noreply@blogger.com
