This ranks right up..."The Magic Mirror." This ranks right up there with my favorite episodes of the series. It held sway over me as a young man, and moreso as an adult. I can't watch this one without choking up. Simply put, it is beautiful.
Angela Cartwright's performance is amazing. Her emotions are on full display, and at the end, when she stands at the foot of the magic mirror, looking into it...I am gutted. Every time.
The cinematography in the mirror world harkens back to certain episodes of The Outer Limits, and is very effective.
Best of all, and in harsh contrast to today's visual works, we are told little to nothing about the Boy. Who is he? How did he get there? (And other questions that I won't reveal.) We are left to arrive at our own conclusions, and I love that. Were the episode made now, we would have answers to all those questions. It's wonderful that we don't.
Watch this episode on a rainy day. It will absorb you, carry you to someplace you never knew. And it will stay with you, as the Boy stays in Penny's heart forever.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13101722769411384962noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-84620628088043870632015-05-26T13:56:45.024-04:002015-05-26T13:56:45.024-04:00I agree with David, it is good to see an episode t...I agree with David, it is good to see an episode that is not about Will/Smith/Robot. Not as good as Mr. Nobody, but very, very close. Preferable (to me at least) to the camp fest it became.Davidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03097420555737415471noreply@blogger.com
