Sad to see he's gone. I'll place this on watch. Have a lovely Sunday.SFFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04256589316922398158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-46020425602108941782010-12-05T12:05:11.484-05:002010-12-05T12:05:11.484-05:00Hello my friends,

It is entertaining, and there's no reason to say that entertaining is not enough!

SFF: I'm glad you liked Predators. I thought it was very good. Very true and respectful in spirit to the original intentions of the franchise.

Seaquest -- yes, guarded!

Now, if I had to choose between Space Precinct or Buck Rogers...I'd go with Buck. I like Space Precinct, but it doesn't have the added bonus of "nostalgia" attached to it.

Farscape is pure genius. This Gerry Anderson show is...entertaining. But the episodes do go by fast. You can consume the whole set in like three days, and feel pretty good after the experience. Honestly, I enjoyed watching Space Precinct. Light as a feather (and stiff as a board), as it were...

I was just talking the other day to someone about Tony Anholt; mourning his early passing. I thought of him a lot while watching Space Precinct.

If Netflix offers Space Precinct as a rental, I recommend you try a disc out, and see how you feel after four or five installments. The miniatures are good, the aliens are fun, and the stories have a nice sense of drive and humor.

best,
JKMJohn Kenneth Muirhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15629979615332893780noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-72054030515002235712010-12-05T11:55:15.352-05:002010-12-05T11:55:15.352-05:00Okay my friend- coffee in hand. Yes - that was a very guarded recommendation on Seaquest indeed. : ) Also, watched Predators yesterday and it was very good. I enjoyed it. It was exactly as you articulated the film, the core of which is true to the original and the mythology.
----
So, You know I'm a fan of Gerry Anderson [FAB Friday, UFO, Space:1999, Thunderbirds]- love them!

But, like a great artist that has lost it, I've been really reluctant to check out Space Precinct.

I'm looking forward to your thoughts on this one.

"historical artifact"- not exactly what I look for in a science fiction classic. : )
Mind you, I'm certainly okay with it if everything else works.

I will say, I enjoyed your selection of images. I'm a big fan of miniatures and models and it looks reasonably good. And since I'm okay to some extent with early Godzilla I would probably enjoy the experience.

Thanks for the behind-the-scenes and factual information regarding those involved on the show. Anderson could pull talent. That man has some serious pull for television.

By the way, it's hard to believe Tony Verdeschi is no longer with us. He was so young back in the second season of Space:1999.

Space Precinct... hmm, would this qualify as guarded? : )

Seriously, it sounds like it has some of the energy of a Farscape and I completely connect with that, but I get nervous it's a little too kid-oriented. But your terrific look back was an entertaining ride.

So if you had to choose, Buck Rogers or Space Precinct if you were going to that desert island and you could only pick one.

: )

Excellent examination as always.
SFFSFFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04256589316922398158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12380553.post-18938735062284468012010-12-04T22:51:27.334-05:002010-12-04T22:51:27.334-05:00I agree with everything you said here about this s...I agree with everything you said here about this series. I watched the recent Sci-Fi channel marathon (I refuse to refer to them as SyFy), and the DVD series is definitely on my Christmas want list.

The series was lots of fun. I remember first seeing it at some crazy hour late at night when it first aired. I couldn't believe it was given such a terrible time slot. Like you said, the stations didn't know what to make of this type of show.

The effects were fantastic and the pace was fast. Sure, the miniatures weren't always 100% convincing, but they were always a marvel to look at. They just don't make 'em like this anymore. And the humor was entertaining for the most part. Some of the acting was a bit dodgy, but the show was just plain fun. A very enjoyable show. I hope the DVDs sell well - the show deserves a second look, especially if you're an Anderson fan.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
