John's CV

John Kenneth Muir is the award-winning author of 22 books on film & television. He began his writing career in the summer of 1996, and since then has seen books published by Applause Theatre & Cinema Books, McFarland, and Powys Media

John has also written freelance for periodicals including Cinescape, Filmfax, Rerun, Collectors News, & The Official Farscape Magazine.

John has been quoted about his opinions on film and TV in magazines and periodicals including Cinescape Insider (March 1999), The Village Voice (Oct. 25-31, 2000), Toronto's National Post (June 2001), Wicked Magazine (2001), the Gannett News Service (November 2002), Simulacres (2003), Amazing Stories (Jan/February 2005), The New York Daily News (11/13/05), The New York Post (11/20/05), The Philadelphia Inquirer (03/02/06), The Contra Costa Times (12/03/06) and The View Magazine (2008).

John has appeared on television on TVOntario's Saturday Night at the Movies (October, 2005), The E! True Hollywood Story (August 2004), and on the Sci-Fi Channel Series Sciography (July 2000).

On the radio, he's been a guest on the Joe Franklin/Wes Richards Bloomberg Radio program "On the Weekend," the nationally-syndicated "The Mitch Albom Show," the nationally-syndicated "Allan Handelman Show," "Good Morning Charlotte," "NiteShift," BBC Ecuador, and "Destinies: The Voice of Science Fiction."

In 2007, John appeared in the documentary "Decade of Darkness" (alongside genre luminaries such as John Landis and Joe Dante), to discuss horror films of the 1980s.

Two of John's books have been selected as Booklist Editor Choices (Terror Television in 2001; Horror Films of the 1970s, 2002).

Horror Films of the 1970s was also selected as an ALA "Outstanding Reference Source" for the year 2003, one of only thirteen books to be selected for that high honor.

In April of 2005, it was announced that The New York Public Library had selected John's Encyclopedia of Superheroes on Film and Television as a "Best of Reference" for the year.

John is also an avid collector of toys and other memorabilia from the TV shows and movies of the 1970s-1980s, and a cat lover.

He has been married to his very patient wife, Kathryn (a therapist...) for 15 years and has a three-year old son, Joel.

In 2006, Muir launched production of his own independent and dramatic sci-fi web series, "The House Between." The series - a Sy Fy Genre Nominee for "Best Web Production" in 2008 and an Airlock Alpha Portal Award Nominee in 2009 - ran for three seasons.
