#14 would be Rommie, from Andromeda.

(And as an aside - Very glad to see Rimmer on the list. I'd have had to fuss otherwise. :D )

  6. Woodchuckgod:

Yes, my friend, #14 is the lovely Rommie from Andromeda. (And I would have deserved fussing at if I had forgotten Rimmer...)! :)

    best.

But you did overlook the very stylish Vindrus in 'A Matter of Balance Y2' of Space 1999!

  8. Good selection of holos...when I saw the category, I *REALLY* hoped you would have Selma from Time Trax. I enjoyed watching the first season of that series, there were some remarkable episodes and I totally loved Selma, another computer (like Rommie) who had a great personality---in this case, like your mom.

The girl from #5 looks awfully familiar...

I think #10 is the actor W. Morgan Sheppard, who played many genre roles over the years, including a character (Dr. Ira Graves) who tried to put his personality into Data, in the NextGen episode Schizoid Man (probably the most familiar role to a lot of us). If so, I think this his an AI hologram that he played in the first two seasons of Seaquest DSV. 'Holographic Professor Martenson', according to wiki. aka 'The Old Man'

11 also looks familiar... But I don't know about this.

I think 13 is Vic Fontaine, the Las Vegas hologram on Deep Space Nine. I really enjoyed him and how he became a real person, like several of the better programs like The EMH Doctor of Voyager, Selma, and Rommie.

That's one of the great things about sf: great characters don't have to be human--or even organic!

  9. Hi everyone,

Meredith: Ah yes, Vindrus. He really rocked that yellow cape and speedo. :)

Seriously, I wasn't sure if Vindrus was or was not a hologram. But perhaps he should have been included on this list.

Hi PDXWiz: I love your closing line in that comment, that great sci-fi characters don't have to be human, and furthermore, don't even have to be organic. How true.

And as for the identifications, yep, you accurately tagged #10 and #13. Great job!!!

    My best to you both,
    JKM

  11. Hi Howard,

I knew you would catch that one. We share an admiration for that outstanding episode of the Twilight Zone revival, I remember!

    Great job (As usual!)

  12. Ah, yes, it is Danica McKellar... I really enjoyed her on The Wonder Years. How many of us were like Kevin on that show? Just about the right age, too.

I greatly loved the Trek spoof, where Kevin and his friends were wearing kid-sized Original Series uniforms and acting out Spock's Brain, and Danica played the leader of the female aliens (the Marj Dusay role), wearing a costume just like they did, too. Classic tv moment, and Fred Savage properly acted like Kirk/Shatner in that scene!

I loved the 80s TZ revival. I saw about 1/3 of the episodes from the first two years. There were many excellent stories that I felt ranked well with the Original Series, especially the Kennedy episode with Andrew Robinson, Profile in Silver. I was hooked from the first episode, with the story A Little Peace and Quiet. I just wish I'd had a VCR then so I could've taped episodes; for a while, I worked the nights it aired here in my city. The humor in episodes like Wish Bank was as funny as classic episodes like the one where Shakespeare was summoned by Julius Moomer to the present via black magic, The Bard. The horror and shock were better overall in the original series, and the noirish results from being in black and white were unparalleled. But they were able to gain an incredible amount of talent for the new series, rivalling the original. If only they hadn't had to split creative forces with those who worked on Amazing Stories...
