"Arrogant, impatient and insensitive..."

I was reading Andrew Sullivan (my favorite blogger) this morning, and he directed readers to a site called Typealyzer that reads and analyzes blogs. I ran mine through the old type-o-lizer and here's what I got:

"The logical and analytical type. They are especially attuned to difficult creative and intellectual challenges and always look for something more complex to dig into. They are great at finding subtle connections between things and imagine far-reaching implications.

They enjoy working with complex things using a lot of concepts and imaginative models of reality. Since they are not very good at seeing and understanding the needs of other people, they might come across as arrogant, impatient and insensitive to people that need some time to understand what they are talking about."

So clearly, I am the definition of a TRUE ass, just as my insult archive attests. Hah!

  1. Thanks John,

    That fun little site.

I was curious what it would say about my writing. Apparently I'm a mechanic:

"The independent and problem-solving type. They are especially attuned to the demands of the moment are masters of responding to challenges that arise spontaneously. They generelly prefer to think things out for themselves and often avoid inter-personal conflicts."

"The Mechanics enjoy working together with other independent and highly skilled people and often like seek fun and action both in their work and personal life. They enjoy adventure and risk such as in driving race cars or working as policemen and firefighters."

  2. Arrogant, impatient and insensitive, you could run on that ticket in France and win.

  3. Hey Marx: I like what the site said about you!!! Cool. I wish I got that one... :)

And Lar: I recognize that line from Woody Allen!!! From my favorite movie about writing, Deconstructing Harry (1997). In the movie, Woody's sister said he was all "nihilism" "orgasm" (and something else I can't recall at the moment...) and Woody replied that he could run on that ticket in France and win!

  5. Just for fun, a ran "Letters from Working Girls," a blog that consists of letters from prostitutes explaining why they do what they do, and "Letters from Johns," the obvious companion site of LfWG, through the scan.

    The johns got:

    The Artists

The gentle and compassionate type. They are especially attuned their inner values and what other people need. They are not friends of many words and tend to take the worries of the world on their shoulders. They tend to follow the path of least resistance and have to look out not to be taken advantage of.

They often prefer working quietly, behind the scene as a part of a team. They tend to value their friends and family above what they do for a living.

    The prostitutes got:

    The Performers

The entertaining and friendly type. They are especially attuned to pleasure and beauty and like to fill their surroundings with soft fabrics, bright colors and sweet smells. They live in the present moment and don´t like to plan ahead - they are always in risk of exhausting themselves.

The enjoy work that makes them able to help other people in a concrete and visible way. They tend to avoid conflicts and rarely initiate confrontation - qualities that can make it hard for them in management positions.

  6. Now that's funny.

So maybe I'm not arrogant, impatient and insensitive...

...I was trying to "own it."

  7. I ran that tool three times -- once for my personal blog, once for my most recent news stories on Classic-Horror, and one for the my last 10 reviews.

Personal Blog: ESTP - The Doers

The active and play-ful type. They are especially attuned to people and things around them and often full of energy, talking, joking and engaging in physical out-door activities.

The Doers are happiest with action-filled work which craves their full attention and focus. They might be very impulsive and more keen on starting something new than following it through. They might have a problem with sitting still or remaining inactive for any period of time.

(Nate again -- take out all the extroversion there and it's somewhat accurate)

News page: ISTP - The Mechanics

The independent and problem-solving type. They are especially attuned to the demands of the moment are masters of responding to challenges that arise spontaneously. They generelly prefer to think things out for themselves and often avoid inter-personal conflicts.

The Mechanics enjoy working together with other independent and highly skilled people and often like seek fun and action both in their work and personal life. They enjoy adventure and risk such as in driving race cars or working as policemen and firefighters.

(okay, maybe not. Adventure and risk? It's because I write for a horror site, isn't it)

    Reviews: INTP - The Thinkers

The logical and analytical type. They are especialy attuned to difficult creative and intellectual challenges and always look for something more complex to dig into. They are great at finding subtle connections between things and imagine far-reaching implications.

They enjoy working with complex things using a lot of concepts and imaginative models of reality. Since they are not very good at seeing and understanding the needs of other people, they might come across as arrogant, impatient and insensitive to people that need some time to understand what they are talking about.

(this is more in tune with how I see myself, although it's interesting that when I take a standard Meyers-Briggs, I'm an INFP, not TP -- but one could assume that when writing for the masses, one usually tries to make the experience more universal. I do that by appealing to logic, mostly)

Do you think that the guy who invented the Typealizer likes The Beyond?

  10. Joey Bishop Jr.

All I can tell you for sure is that I don't like The Beyond.

How's that for arrogant, impatient and insensitive?
